What is Helical?

  • Helical is the world's most advanced breed registry platform, purpose-built for the cloud and genomics era. Designed by Dan Garrick and his team, this innovative system works with livestock organizations globally to deliver cutting-edge tools that maximize genomic and performance data.



    When we go-live, what changes can be expected for data submission?

    • If you previously used the Herefords members area to submit your registration, weights and ADL data, this will all be done through Helical.
    • All links on the NZ Herefords website which took you to internet solutions will direct you to the Helical system.
    • If you use a livestock management system, there is no change to your process, continue to submit to registry directly, but you’re welcome to use the reporting and dashboard functions.
    • As all pre-built templates for weights, registrations and disposals are now available in the import data area, there is no need to request that the registry team load batches for you prior to loading data.

    From go-live, how do I view animal enquiries?

    • The link for “animal enquiries” and “ebv enquiries” will direct you to the Helical public search to view animals.

    From go-live, how do I view sale catalogues?

    • The link for “sale catalogues” on the NZ Herefords website will direct you to the Helical public search to view catalogues.

    Are there changes to the group run times or data submission cutoffs?

    • There are no changes to the group run or data submission cutoffs
    • Data is due by the 3rd of each month to make the group run
    • Results are due back between 18th- 20th  (approximately)

    How do my clients now view our animals, sale catalogues and get breeder information?

    • Your customers will be able to view your bull data in a similar manner to what is currently available with internet solutions.
    • The Helical system has a public interface where customers can search for any bulls in the NZ Herefords database via animal enquiry, sale catalogues via the sale catalogues tab and breeder data under stud search. This will be viewable by all, with no login/passwords required. Data is also available for them to download to a csv for further analysis if required.

    Which internet browser should I be using?

    • It is recommended Google Chrome be used for accessing Helical for optimal performance.

    I have feedback I want to submit on the Helical system, how do I do this?

    Email us on registry@pbbnz.com with any feedback, and we’ll submit this to Helical on your behalf.

    What resources are available for learning the Helical processes?

    The registry team have prepared a dedicated support hub, with a video and step by step tipsheet for every process. Some are available now, some will be available post go-live, so check this section often.
